Launch of a new lighter. - An interesting ceremony was performed on Tuesday, when a new 40-ton lighter for carrying purposes was successfully launched from the boat-building yard at Paglesham. The vessel was built for Mr. Zachary Pettitt, oyster merchantman, by Mr. J. W. Shuttlewood, successor to Mr. Hall, whose workmanship has given great satisfaction. The vessel was christened the Arthur, by Master Arthur Pettitt, the youngest son of the owner. Amongst those present at the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. Z. Pettitt, Mr. R. Pettitt, Mr. G. Pettitt, Miss Mortier, Mr. and Mrs. A. Nichols, Mr. G. Fletcher, and a large number of men who are employed on the river.
